Hi, I need to access both 19th Century Periodicals Online and the British Newspaper Archive online on a regular basis for my research. Am I really not able to do this through UAL? I'm pretty sure I asked about a year ago and was told no. But that seems ridiculous as these are major resources and I'd be very surprised if you didn't have them. Could you please let me know how I can access them, or, if they're not available, let me know the best person to direct my complaint to. Best wishes, Miranda

Yes I'm afraid these are not resources that are currently on offer as part of our online collections, they used to be freely available so we were able to include them as part of our online offer but still found they were little used. They are now no longer free, and given the low usage UAL were not able to justify paying the subscription costs for these over other more extensively used databases.
We usually recommend students and staff use the British Library online resources for their newspaper research. They are free to use but you do need to access them on-site (using their reading room). You can have a look at their digital collections webpages to get a full listing of all the newspaper resources which would be available to you:
Best wishes and don't hesitate to get in touch again if you have further questions,
